Whimar MagnetScraper 4 – the ultimate magnet? Review
I’m always looking for the right accessory, and since my Easy Blade don’t work anymore, I searched something to replace them. And I found the Whimar Magnet Scraper 4.
This article is also available in: italiano
Don’t you know about the Easy Blade??? They’re one of the first reviews I’ve done here on DaniReef, you can read the italian version “Easy Blade” (back to 2008… don’t go too hard on it).
In my research I was looking for a real blade to get rid of even the more stubborn algae, and that would have a good grisp on my 15 mm glass. As a bonus the Whimar Magnet Scraper 4 has also the possibility to have a plastic blade for acrylic aquariums.
So the choice was rather easy, also because it was recommended by a friend of mine (right, Michele?). So I made the order and in a few days it arrived.
The package of the Whimar Magnet Scraper 4
The package is spectacular, more inside than outside. Inside it is a very well-finished box (except for the adhesive) there’s an expanded cell filling that keeps the magnets and the scrapers in their place.
The two magnets inside are good for glasses until 25 mm!!! So their force of attraction is very strong. Be careful!
Similar to the Easy Blade, which has a bladeholder to paste over the magnet, the Whimar Magnet Scraper 4 is already equipped with a scrape holder.
There are two scrapes, one with the metal blade for glasses and the other with the plastic blade for acrylic.
The blades are very practical even if they aren’t so easy to be inserted and removed, because you have to press the central button and pull hard. The first time I feared I broke everything… but then I understood how to do it properly.
Obviously, the magnet can be used even without the two blades, relying only on the abrasive material, like any other magnet.
How does it work in aquarium?
The attraction force is very strong. I only had magnets for 15mm glasses before, and using one that can manage until 25mm is incredible. In this way it surely doesn’t go lost in the aquarium.
Moreover, even if it should come off, the magnet floats, so it wouldn’t be a problem.
With all the force it has, however, I have the problem to assure it scrolls well throught my 15 mm glass, because it unluckily makes to much friction. It’s a pity because a magnet so adherent it’s spectacular. It cleans everything. If before I had trouble even with the blade now with this magnet I can clean almost everywhere with the only inferior part.
By inserting the metal scrape it obviously becomes easier to clean ever in the corners.
The spare blades should be available in a short time.
According to me, it’s the perfect magnet. Well, taking the model for 25 mm maybe has accentuated some faults… But there are magnets for glasses of 6, 10 and 16 mm. Very good for both glass and acrylic… What else do you need?
The only point against is the price. The magnet needs 43,70 euro, even if the street price is actually of 34,95 euro. I ordered it here.
Double scraper included, for glass and acrylic
Very powerful magnet

We really liked the Magnet Scraper. Powerful, floating and with a double scraper, made of metal and plastic to work well on both glass and acrylic. Too bad the price is a little high, and pay attention to thickness.
