During the trip to Interzoo at Nurnberg (here and here) I have brought back with me some useful things… the firts I mention is my new pump to return water from the sump…

It’s my third pump for this task.

The first I had was also the last one, the mighty Eheim 1250, when the other pump, OceanRunner OR2500 was utilized only for a couple of months.

Why changing?

Acquisto azzeccato 😉

My forniture is 90 cm high, so the pump need more of 140 cm of delivery head. Using my spreadsheet I’ve calculated 360 litres for hour. Too little flow I think.

The Ocean Runner was far better, with about 1.108 litres for hour. But I had two problem with it. The first was the noise caused by return water… too much water and too much noise, the second was related to my overflow system. This is without any setting, and so the OR pumped the water to a too high level near the glass limit.

So I searched the right pump, and I’ve individuated the Eheim Compact Plus 2000. The same spreadsheet has calculated 783 litres for hour.

I’m sure my spreadsheet is calculating too much flow than reality, but surely the differences exist and are similar, don’t you think?

I write here all the technical data:

Eheim 1250, 1.200 l/h, delivery head 2 mt, power consumption 28w (27 measured)

Ocean Runner OR2500, 2.400 l/h, delivery head 2,6 mt, power consumption 38w (48 measured)

Eheim Compact Plus 2000, 2.000 l/h, delivery head 2,3 mt, power consumption 35w

The pump is very well built, I’ve noticed only one potential problem. There are 4 metal screw under plastic cover, we’ll see in about some months if they’ll caused some trouble.

The right water flow between tank and sump is very important and has to be calibrated on flow of our skimmer to obtain the best from it, and especially in the summer, it’s important also for using chiller, otherwise we can have the sump cold and the tank too much hot.

After having installed it…

First point… the noise… absolutely noiseless… GREAT!!! No vibrations at all…

Secondo point… I’ve measured power consumption with the same software from my UPS APC… only 16 watt… absolutely incredible… but I know there is a trick… this pump is surely an high inductive load (I hope in english the term is correct), and so the software can’t be so precise. I will check it.

With these considerations I think to have found what I’m looking for.

Double flow rate than Eheim 1250, more power consumption but not so much more and with my UPS i have, probably, about 4 hours of autonomy, and above all… the same noise (maybe less).

Great Purchase!!!

Don’t you think so? 😉

I’ve just tested the autonomy with my UPS…

800 VA on APC and 35w of power consumpion give me 5 hours and 36 minutes… definitively GREAT!!! Only 18 minutes less of 1250…

Fantastica!
