Pacific Sun presents what I have been waiting for years: an adaptor for taking photos in aquarium. From today, the photos in aquarium won’t be the same.Continue Reading
After the great success of the previous section that talked about the general theory of photography and the basics to get great photos, and I recommend you to read if you had not yet done to better understand what I write in this article (you can do so by clicking here) I’m going to talk strictly about how to get good photos in aquarium, with many practical examples.

During my visit to the eighth edition of Salento Aquarium, I did a lesson on a subject that I really like “Aquarium, how taking pictures“, and are therefore here, as promised, to propose a mini-course as a guideline how to photograph in the aquarium, getting the best with our equipment, obviously the course is open to all, since most of what is written applies to any photographic genre, even though the examples will focus on the photographs in the aquarium.
I hope that the course will be useful and that you enjoy reading it, and if you have any requests please leave your comments.
This is the first part that covers the basics of photography, the choice of lenses and the setting of the machine, the second part will address specifically the photographs in the aquarium, going into the details of how to photograph aquariums, fish and corals , and the last part will cover instead the development of the digital negative, the RAW file.
For my next trip to Egypt I’ll find myself in a position to choose which lens bring with me to fully complement the two other lenses that I have just decided to bring and are untouchable, the Tokina 12-24 f4 for landscapes and the Nikon 70-200 f2, 8 VR to make shots to my daughters and photos at night.
So I also got the ball to finally decide which of the two middle zoom in my possession was in fact the best. After all, I was interested to cover between 24 from Tokina and 70 from Nikon. The main choice fell initially on the 28-105, but then reflecting about, and considering that the difference between the two is only 100 grams, I thought I could also look at the 18-200 which would have also the VR, the Nikon’s optical stabilizer, not essential but certainly useful. Basically, any lens I’ll bring with me, I’ll use it in the range of focal lengths between 24 and 70 approximately.
AF-S Nikkor 18-200 1:3,5-5,6 G ED vs AF Nikkor 28-105 1:3.5-4,5 D (click here to enlarge)
The Nikon Nikkor 28-105 AF-D f3,5-4,5 was a good medium zoom a few years ago, with excellent macro capability, and it’s still possible to find it, used, at very low prices, while the Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX VR 18-200 f3.5-5, 6 ED IF is the classic all-rounder for the DX sensor, which, compared to 28-105 begins from 18 and comes to 200 and is stabilized.
So it all begins from my need and that I wanted to extend to you all.
It’s time now!
Tomorrow morning we’ll take the airplane to go to Red Sea… So my website will be without me for a while 🙂
This year we’ll go to Holiday Beach Resort, like the last year… and if you want to see the astounding pictures of the last year you can do here: Holiday Beach Resort
This winter I took the CMAS scuba brevet, so this year finally I can swim down & down 🙂 so I have needed to buy another camera…
So I chose the new Olympus Fe-3010 with his water proof case PT-046.
You have only to wait to see the pictures 🙂 and a complete review!
Inaugurate this post with a new section of the website dedicated to photography, my old and never sopita passion. Over time I will have to write so many articles that I hope can be helpful.
To begin, however, I would begin to speak of my last purchase in photography, a tripod.
It was a long time I tried to buy one, but I did not know which to choose because I could not find one that was sufficiently stable, lightweight, small, and the cost. 4 features that are difficult to find.
