Ormai un paio di settimane fa ho comprato alcuni pesci, di cui purtroppo uno dopo 15 giorni è spirato. Siccome però questo pesce è molto bello (Chaetodon kleinii) e la più piccola delle mie bimbe se ne era innamorata e gli aveva dato un nome, l’ho ricomprato qualche giorno fa.

Dopo qualche giorno dall’inserimento mi sono preso un po’ di tempo per fare qualche foto che pubblico ora, sebbene in colpevole ritardo.

E così torniamo nel tema del mio acquario marino che è stato un po’ trascurato ultimamente

Preso inizialmente per mangiare le aiptasie, di cui è un accreditato divoratore in sostituzione dell’Acreichthys tomentosus deceduto dopo un anno e mezzo dal suo inserimento e che aveva svolto egregiamente il suo lavoro. Con il bonus riportato in diversi testi che potrebbe anche essere un divoratore di Myrionema amboeniensis. Appena inserito e fatta la conoscenza di Berto, il mio splendido Acanthurus leucosternon, si era ambientato in maniera magnifica, mangiava di tutto (tranne le aiptasie), ed era uno spettacolo vederlo nuotare con il suo nuoto così diverso da quello a cui sono abituato. La mia figlia piccola se ne è subito innamorata, tanto da dargli il nome di Pepe. Purtroppo dopo 15 giorni è deceduto senza motivo apparente.

Ricomprato qualche giorno fa, si è subito ambientato, ma non ho ancora foto.

Biologicamente è accreditato di una lunghezza massima di 14/15 cm a seconda delle fonti. Semplice da adattare alla vita in cattività e divoratore più o meno di qualsiasi cosa.

I pesci mandarino li trovo splendidi, si adattano in qualsiasi vasca con facilità se le vasche sono sufficientemente anziane e ricche di vita, diciamo quindi che per inserire con successo e fiducia un pesce mandarino in vasca l’acquario deve essere allestito da almeno un anno e con un buon numero di rocce vive.

Questo è il mio primo tentativo con un mandarino picturatus, accreditato di una taglia massima di 7 cm, e che non è proprio semplicissimo allevare in cattività proprio per le difficoltà ad alimentarlo.

Sinchyropus splendidus - pesce mandarino, Herre 1926
anche conosciuto come green Mandarinefish e striped Mandarinfish

Per ora vivono tranquilli, pacifici e si ignorano anche se spesso bazzicano negli stessi posti. Notate la grandezza dei discosomi delle foto Lo splendidus è accreditato di una lunghezza massima di 8 cm, ed ha gli stessi problemi di ambientamento e difficoltà di alimentazione di tutti i pesci mandarino, ma è assolutamente splendido.

Entrambi gli esemplari sono molto giovani, e l’ultimo sinchyropus splendidus è vissuto per 3 anni ed è scomparso proprio un anno fa qualche giorno dopo il cambio vasca.

Lo Pseudocheilinus è accreditato essere un ottimo divoratore di planarie, insieme ai mandarini, e siccome non ho mai avuto problemi di planarie… bhè… prevengo. Tra l’altro è un pesce molto vivace che nuota molto ed accreditato di crescere al massimo 7,5 cm.

Purtroppo è un ottimo saltatore, ed infatti l’ho già pescato una volta dal pavimento, spero che gli sia bastato

Some days ago, three weeks, I bought some new fishes for my aquarium. One is just dead after 15 days… but… as I like this fish very much (Chaetodon kleinii) and one of my daughters (2 years old) has named him Pepe, I’ve bought again.

I’ve taken mainly to eat aiptasia, because in wild life he normally eat them in substitution of the Acreichthys tomentosus passed away after 18 months but that had eaten all the aiptasia, accomplishing its job. With the bonus written in various books that he could also eat Myrionema amboeniensis. As soon as I inserted and made the acquaintance of Berto, my splendid Acanthurus leucosternon, he was ok, he ate everything (except the aiptasia), and his swim was spectacular, so different from other I was used to see. My small daughter fallen in love for him… until he called him Pepe. Unfortunately after 15 days he is passed away without appearing reason.

I’ve bought some days ago but I haven’t picture of “new” Pepe.

Normally he grows until 14-15 cm depending on book you’re reading. Very simple to keep in aquarium but he eat about everything…

I love Mandarinefish, also because they are good mate of almost every reef aquarium, if reef aquarium are quite old (1 years) and full of live rock to give them something to eat. In fact is almost impossibile to give them non-living food.

This is my first attempt with picturatus Mandarinefish, max 7 cm, not so easy to keep for his eating food problems.

But, nevertheless, I can’t resist to their beauty, so I’ve bought also

Sinchyropus splendidus - Mandarinefish, Herre 1926
also known as green Mandarinefish e striped Mandarinfish

For now they live together with no problem and are good mates, also if their are going in the same rocks. Please note the Big Discosoma

Splendidus Mandarinefish grows until about 8 cm, and have the same feed problem of Picturatus Mandarinefish. But I like them very very much.

Two mates are young, and I hope they can live for many years. My last Sinchyropus splendidus has lived for 3 years on my tank.

Pseudocheilinus hexataenia - Sixline Wrasse, Bleeker 1857

Pseudocheilinus normally are good eater of planaria, together with mandarinefishes. I never had problems with planaria, but… better preventing it! Anyway he is a very vivid fish, swims a lot and grows until 7,5 cm.

On the other side he is a good jumper, I’ve taken just one time from my floor, I hope it’s enough for him…

Uno si sveglia la mattina e scopre che le cose accadono…

I myrionema amboeniensis (o amboeniese) sono sempre un problema, che prima o poi troverò il tempo di affrontare anche qua e ne scriverò un articolo, vi basti sapere che sono arrivato ad un punto tale che se non risolvo a breve potrei svuotare la vasca completamente e ricominciare.

Comunque dicevo, uno si alza, va all’impianto di osmosi e legge un TDS di 24… quando l’ultima volta che lo aveva usato segnava fra 0 ed 1… quel poveretto cosa deve fare? La storia vuole che quel poveretto ha lasciato aperto l’impianto di osmosi per oltre 2 ore, solo per arrivare nuovamente ad un valore di 1.

Poi sempre quel poveretto torna in casa, perché l’impianto di osmosi è nella soffitta, apre il mobile dell’acquario e si accorge che il reattore di calcio ha compattato tutta l’ARM presente in esso (Korallin C-4001), l’uscita del reattore è ovviamente bloccata, e il KH in acquario è crollato… uff

Poi sempre quell’omino si gira verso lo schiumatoio e…

Apro una parentesi. Avendo in casa una pompa Ocean Runner OR2500, come potete vedere qua: OR2500 ho provato a cambiare la pompa dello schiumatoio Elos NS1000 con l’unico scopo di vedere se era possibile abbassare i consumi della Eheim 1260.

Ebbene qui vedete una foto dello schiumatoio con l’Ocean Runner, se non sapete cosa guardare ve lo dico io, date un occhio alle bolle presenti nella camera di contatto, al numero ed alla loro distribuzione

Dopo aver tenuto per oltre un mese questa pompa, ed aver mantenuto i valori a zero, ho voluto rimettere su la Eheim 1260, in quanto al di là dei dati dichiarati in linea (cioè a prevalenza zero), entrambe le pompe collegate a questo schiumatoio hanno dato più o meno lo stesso consumo misurato, attorno ai 48-50 watt.

Come detto ho cambiato la pompa, rimettendo l’Eheim, ed infatti come potete vedere dalla foto la camera di contato è molto molto più piena, il che sottintende sicuramente una migliore efficienza dell’insieme

Orbene, torniamo al nostro omino…

Che sempre quel giorno si volta verso lo schiumatoio e si accorge che solo 24 ore dopo aver rimesso la Eheim lo schiumatoio è letteralmente impazzito e si è riempito di puzzolente brodaglia nero-verde…

Come si dice… Le cose accadono…

My very big problem, The Myrionema amboeniensis (or amboeniese) are always worst, sooner or later I assure you I’ll find the time to write something about them, but as my friends know I’m arrived to decision to empty my tank to begin again from the beginning.

Let’s change the subject, the man wakes up, goes to his reverse osmosis system and reads a TDS of 24… when the last time it marked between 0 and 1… what must this man do? The history tells us the man open his system and waits for more than 2 hours until he reads again a value of 1.

Then the man comes back home, because reverse osmosis system is in the attic, opens sump doors and look at his calcium reactor (Korallin C-4001). All the ARM media is one big compact piece, no water comes out from it, and dKH in aquarium is raised down

Then the man looks at his skimmer and…

Let’s do one step backward.
As I have a Ocean Runner OR2500 pump, as you can see here: OR2500. I have tried to change the skimmer pump of Elos NS1000 to see if it were possible to lower the consumptions of Eheim 1260.
Well, here you see a photo of skimmer with the Ocean Runner, if you don’t know where to look at, I say to you… Let’s look to the bubbles in the contact room, their number and their distribution

After using it for a month, my water values are again at values to zero, I come back to Eheim 1260. You can read different consumption value on datasheet but to my measurement I read a value from 48 to 50 watt to each other.

So I replace the ocean Runner with Eheim, and as you can see from picture below, contact room is more filled with bubbles, so efficiency is better improved

So let’s come back to our man…

The man looks at his skimmer and see cup filled with brown water. Only 24 hours after changing his pump! The skimmer is driven crazy and is filled of stinking black-green water…

As it is said… The things happen…
