Red Sea introduced at CIPS 2025 the new ReefControl ecosystem, a fully wireless automation system for marine aquariums that promises to change the rules of the game.
Here we are again, bringing you the most interesting new products straight from CIPS. This year, the Red Sea booth was undoubtedly one of the hottest. We had the pleasure of meeting Paul, head of Red Sea New Zealand, who guided us through what looks like a true revolution in reef aquarium automation: the ReefControl ecosystem.
Red Sea’s philosophy is clear: simplify technology to leave more room for the beauty of the reef. Here are the technical details of what we saw.
Red Sea Revolutionizes Automation: Our Video from CIPS
Directly from the halls of CIPS, we take you into the heart of the Red Sea booth to discover one of the most talked-about innovations of the entire event. We met Paul, who showed us a world-first look at the new ReefControl ecosystem: a bold vision that aims to eliminate the traditional central controller by integrating intelligence directly into the probes and power units.
This is a complete paradigm shift for anyone who loves reef automation. In the video below, I explain in detail how the new Sense probes, the Power bar, and the ReefATO+ system work, showing how reef management is becoming increasingly wireless, modular, and “smart”.

ReefControl Sense: The Probes Become Intelligent
The real “bombshell” presented by Paul is the probes. Forget bulky controllers acting as a central “brain”. With ReefControl Sense, Red Sea moved all processing electronics inside the probe itself.

These are digital probes that connect directly to Wi-Fi and can be monitored from your smartphone—without needing anything else.
- Built-in temperature compensation: A crucial technical advantage. The salinity and pH probes also include a temperature sensor, allowing instant correction based on the real water temperature and reducing classic measurement errors.
- Parameters monitored: Salinity, pH, Temperature, and ORP (Redox potential).
- Pro vs Lite modularity:
- ReefControl Lite: A streamlined version with 2 fixed probes (typically pH and Temperature).
- ReefControl Pro: The professional system. It starts with 4 probes and is expandable. Through a dedicated expansion link, you can add 4 more probes, reaching a total of 8 monitored parameters at once.

Long-term reliability of fully wireless probes still needs to be proven, as this is a radically different approach compared to traditional systems.
ReefControl Power: The Wi-Fi Power Bar Is the New Computer
To turn data into action, Red Sea introduced ReefControl Power. This is where the real revolution happens: it’s not just a power strip, but the true heart of the system—with native Wi-Fi built in.
- Two versions available: The power bar will come in a Light 6-outlet version and a Pro 8-outlet version.
- The physical controller is optional: Red Sea offers a dedicated display for quick control, but it’s not mandatory. The bar communicates directly with the ReefBeat app. As I mention in the video, an iPad mini mounted on the wall could be an even more elegant and functional dedicated screen.
- Total integration: The bar can also manage non-Red Sea devices such as chillers or heaters, controlling them based on Sense probe readings in a fully integrated way.

ReefATO+: Safety and Stability
Completing the ecosystem is ReefATO+, a 3-in-1 device that combines automatic top-off with a high-precision water-level sensor, temperature monitoring, and—most importantly—a leak detector so you can sleep peacefully.

The Interview: Paul Explains the ReefControl Philosophy
Note: If you prefer, you can enable YouTube’s automatic translation in the video settings. Here are the three key points Paul highlighted during our chat:
- No central controller: The electronics are “on-board” the probe.
- Digital precision: Each sensor sends processed data directly over Wi-Fi.
- One ecosystem: Everything is controlled via ReefBeat, making reef management fully modular (you can start with one probe and scale up to a complete system).
Conclusions: The Future According to Red Sea
Red Sea’s decision to unveil these products at CIPS—despite some units being scheduled for sale later—shows how strongly they believe in this interconnected ecosystem. Fewer cables, fewer controllers, and more granular control through the app.

Availability and Distribution in Italy
If you couldn’t make it to CIPS in China, you’ll be able to see the entire ReefControl lineup live at upcoming European events: Interzoo in Nuremberg and AcquariaItalia in Milan.

Finally, we would like to remind Italian readers that the official Red Sea distributor in Italy is Aquariatech, which will handle service and distribution of these highly anticipated new products.
