The new calcium reactor AMTRA Square CA 1000 with easier reload
Even you ever met an unusual calcium reactor that you immediately love, even if you didn’t even tried it yet? That’s the sensation I had when I first examinated the calcium reactor Amtra Square CA 1000.
This article is also available in: italiano
We unboxed Amtra‘s reactor with a lot of curiosity. We already knew its shape, because it belongs to the Square series, like the skimmer we saw in preview here: schiumatoio Amtra square skim titanium 1500. But once opened we noticed the most important feature of this reactor, the top ring for reload. You don’t have to disassemble anything. You don’t have to remove the head. Unscrew, refill, screw. Nothing easier. I remember the calcium reactor Elos Rea 120 (here the review), that we reviewed in 2009 but very similar for reload modality.
It’s useless to say that, according to me, this is the feature that can make the difference.

Unboxing and considerations of the calcium reactor AMTRA
The contruction of the reactor is very simple, which is a big bonus. The base is square shaped and the pump is placed under the reaction chamber. Between the pump and the filtering material there’s a quite big sponge. On top there’re the three pipes for the input and the output of the water and the small pipe for the input of the CO2 with non return valve.
On the top there’s the ring for removing the stopper and the probe holder.
The comfort that this reactor promises is huge. Sure, we should verify if a pump of 10 watts only can make it work properly.
The manual is really well done and it explains well how to set the reactor. This is a really nice touch.
The pump is inserted in the body of the reactor through that red seal that you see in the picture. Be careful, at first it isn’t clear how to put and remove it. You only have to turn it 90 degrees and extract it. And to put in on again you insert the lower part on the side and then tighten. Once you get it is very easy.
The reactor is made in acrylic and it’s very lightweight. And thanks to the pipes extruded from the body you can reduce the number of pipes to connect, making the set up practical and easy.
The calcium reactor is sold for 239 euro vat included, even on Amazon, and unquestionably the quality/price ratio is great. We only have to try it on in our system… Even if it may take some time.
