Photographing an aquarium well is much more difficult than it seems. Reflections, glass, overhead lighting, suspended particles and color casts can challenge even high-end equipment. That is why today in the DaniReef LAB we are talking about a solution that is as simple as it is surprising: the DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus underwater housing for smartphones.
It may look like a product designed only for diving and snorkeling, but in reality, at least for us, its use in the aquarium turned out to be a small revelation. By placing the smartphone inside the housing and immersing it directly in the tank, reflections are completely eliminated and it becomes possible to obtain much cleaner, sharper photos and videos, often already ready to use, with far less post-production.
What stands out most is the drastic reduction of the white spots caused by light reflecting off suspended particles.
Our video on the DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus
In our video, we show you the housing up close, the tray system, how the touch function works, the accessories available and, above all, the results achieved directly in the aquarium.
Why photographing an aquarium is so complicated
Anyone who has tried to photograph corals and fish knows it well: the problem is not only the camera. The real enemy is the aquarium itself. The glass reflects what is outside, the light comes from above at unfavorable angles, suspended particles become visible, and the color of reef lights often makes it difficult to obtain a faithful image without heavy editing after the shot. And sometimes, even after all the post-production work, the result still falls short of what we wanted.

The great advantage of the DiveVolk lies precisely here: it brings the smartphone into the water, eliminating a huge part of the variables that ruin our photography from outside the tank.
What is the DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus
The DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus is an underwater smartphone housing compatible with a very large number of models. The concept is as smart as it is practical: the housing remains the same, and when we change phones we do not have to buy the entire system again, but simply replace the dedicated internal tray for our smartphone.

In our case, we used the tray for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, a perfect smartphone for this kind of use thanks to its excellent photo quality and remarkable battery life. But the key point is that the platform is much broader and covers virtually the entire current market.

The real highlight: the touchscreen works underwater
The aspect that impressed us the most is the way the touchscreen works. Thanks to the special liquid-filled front membrane, the housing allows you to use the smartphone almost as if it were outside: you can activate the camera, change modes, use the controls and manage framing directly from the display.

This is a fundamental detail, because it transforms the DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus from a simple waterproof box into a real operational tool. In the aquarium, this means working more precisely, moving calmly, choosing the right subject and taking the shot exactly when needed.
How it is used in the aquarium
Using it is extremely simple. You place the smartphone in its tray, close the housing, check the seal and immerse the DiveVolk directly into the tank. At that point the game changes completely: all glass reflections disappear, detail rendering improves, and corals are photographed in a much more direct and cleaner way. Without unsightly suspended particles.

It is an approach that fits perfectly with modern aquarium keeping, where the phone is already the tool many of us use to shoot, edit, publish and share. But here the smartphone is taken to another level, making possible results that are often impossible from outside the tank or would require a great deal of post-production work.

Build quality and user impressions
Seen up close, the DiveVolk gives a very positive impression. The construction appears well cared for, solid and nicely finished. The housing is lightweight but never gives the feeling of being fragile or approximate. On the contrary, one of the things we liked most is precisely the feeling of a well-designed object, made to last over time.

The closing system is intuitive, the tray guides the smartphone well, and the entire system seems to have been conceived coherently. For those who change phones, the idea of not having to replace the entire housing but only the internal insert is simply perfect.

Accessories: filters, dome and mounts
DiveVolk also offers a series of interesting accessories. Among these we find the threaded front mount for filters, the possibility of using corrective filters, and accessories such as the dome, more designed for underwater landscapes and open-water filming than for aquarium use.

In our aquarium use, the filter included in the Ocean kit must be evaluated case by case, depending on the reef light and the color cast of the tank. In some contexts it can help, in others it risks altering the scene too much. After all, it is an accessory designed primarily for use in the sea, where it probably performs at its best. In the aquarium, however, it must be tested carefully.

Can it also be used for diving?
Yes. The DiveVolk is first and foremost a true underwater housing, designed for use in the sea, for snorkeling and for diving down to 60 meters. For us this is almost a bonus: it is built for serious underwater use, yet it also turns out to be extremely useful in the aquarium. And it is precisely this dual nature that makes it a particularly interesting product.

Those who, like many marine aquarium hobbyists, also love the sea and diving, get an object that can be useful both at home and while traveling.
Price and economic considerations
The DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus is priced at 249 euros, a figure that at first glance may seem significant. But it must be considered in the right way. We are not buying a disposable accessory: we are buying a platform that can stay with us for years, even as we change smartphones. And above all, one that opens up real photographic possibilities that would otherwise require much more expensive equipment or far more complex workflows.

For those who love photographing their aquarium, and perhaps also want to use it for snorkeling or diving, the cost suddenly becomes much easier to understand.

Warning: always rinse after use
Although the housing is a tank, it is still advisable to rinse it after every use. Fill a basin with fresh water and leave it immersed for about ten minutes so that the fresh water can dissolve any tiny salt residue. From time to time, it is also a good idea to clean the seats of the closing screws and the screws themselves with a cotton swab soaked in fresh water. In this way you will avoid any deterioration over time.

| Touchscreen remains fully operational directly on the housing while underwater; | |
| Very well-finished construction; | |
| Smart tray system that can be updated when changing smartphone; | |
| It can also be used for snorkeling and diving; | |

| We strongly recommend purchasing the remote control. |

What we missed and will definitely buy: the remote control
Using the DiveVolk was truly spectacular, but during the test we missed one specific accessory: the remote control. It is a practical Bluetooth selector that allows you to shoot with a feeling much closer to that of a real traditional underwater housing. It is probably the only accessory we would immediately recommend to anyone who wants to make the most of the system in the aquarium as well.

It is called the DIVEVOLK Underwater External Shutter for Seatouch 4 Max Series Housing, and it is the only thing I truly felt was missing. But considering the concept and the longevity of the housing, it is a purchase that, once made, can last for a very long time. When I receive it, I will also update you on how it works in the aquarium.
Conclusions
The DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Plus is one of those products that, once you try it, makes you wonder why you did not think of it before. In our case, it solved a real problem: photographing corals and aquarium animals better without having to fight every time with reflections, glass, suspended particles and excessive post-production.
It is not a gadget. It is a real tool, well built, smart in its philosophy and surprisingly effective in everyday use. For those who love aquarium photography, for those who create content, or simply for those who want to bring home better images with their smartphone, it is a highly recommended solution.
