Maxspect Gyre XF280 pump Preview
We hoped for a long time to test this new pump typology, they impressed us very much during the Interzoo 2014. You can read here our italian article, when the pumps were still named Riptide.
We choose the most powerful variant, the XF280.
There have been presented three different pumps: the XF230, the XF250 and the XF280. Maxspect focused heavily upon this technology that thanks to its construction guarantees a complete movement on all the aquarium volume.
Maxspect Gyre XF230 – XF250 – XF280 technical characteristics
|Maximum capacity||9.000 l/h||20.000 l/h||22.500 l/h|
|Consumption||8-35 w||8-60 w||10 – 80 w|
|Suggested Aquarium||100-400 l||200-3.000 l||750-3.800 l|
|Length||25 cm||30 cm||37 cm|

|Height||4 cm||6,3 cm||5 cm|
|Maximum Efficiency (lxw)||257 l/w||333 l/w||281 l/w|
The new Maxspect Gyre XF280 (that, as we saw, belongs to a series of 3 pumps, distinguished for power) with its 80 watt with 24V and 22.500 litres/hour obtains a result of 281 liters for each watt. A valour of efficiency pretty high, but it seems even more interesting if associated with the monstre range.
The pump can’t be evaluated on its own but linked with its controller, the V6.
It’s beautiful and well refined, and it allows to use the various control ways of the pump:
- Constant Mode – it makes a unic and constant flux all over the tank, and it’s possible to change its intensity;
- Pulse Mode – a pulsation generates a wave shape while maintaining the movement in the entire tank;
- Alternating Mode – it alternates the flux’s direction and in this way also opposite directions.
In the picture here below it’s possible to appreciate its construction with the protection on. You can see the hook of the magnets and the protection itself, which is kept in position by a couple of simple o-rings.
The peculiarity of these types of pumps it’s the “gyre” flux. The water is moved with a strong, horizontal component, differently from the wave flux type of all the other pumps (which has an oscillatory and vertical direction).
Moreover it’s possible to set this pump in a perpendicular or horizontal way, depending on your own layout and the result you want to obtain. So you can have the flux in every part of the aquarium, corners included.
Here above it’s possible to see the pump’s blades.
The Maxspect Gyre XF280 can be sold in bundles with its controller or individually. Just the pump costs 300 euros with an economical efficiency equals to 75 litres per euros. The pump and the controller together cost 440 euros, while a pack with two pump and their controller it’s 740 euros. Only the controller is 140 euros.
The XF250 costs 160 euros instead, 330 with the controller, and the pack with two pumps and controller is 490 euro. The XF230 is 140 euros, 290 euros with the controller, and the usual pack of two pumps and controller is 430 euros, and it’s very worthwhile.
Maxspect it’s officially imported and provided in Italy by Diffusione Acquario.
